Edwin A. Bernstein is Of Counsel to, a former Senior Partner and co-founding member of Katz, Bernstein & Katz, LLP, where he specialized in New York State tax matters, corporate transactions and real estate.
Mr. Bernstein has a diverse legal and corporate background. He started at the Wall Street law firm of Scribner & Miller, where he worked extensively on real estate matters for such clients as Chase Bank and the Clinton Trust Company. His real estate experience also encompassed numerous sales of downtown office buildings including 50 and 120 Broadway. Subsequently he opened his own Wall Street law firm, representing such prominent Americans as member of the Phipps and Guest families. He also practiced before the Securities and Exchange Commission primarily in the Initial Public Offering (IPO) field.
Also noteworthy in Mr. Bernstein’s professional background was his direct involvement in the formation of many businesses. Reflecting a wide range of industries, these organizations included the Regional Broadcasters Group, a chain of fourteen radio stations in New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Florida, of which he was Vice President and General Manager. He was involved in the formation of Culligan Communications Corp., which owned newspaper and radio properties in Texas; Southwestern Broadcasters, which owned radio stations in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and California; Consolidated Orchards, the largest peach growing operation in the Eastern United State; Mayday Mining, a gold and silver mining operation in Durango, Colorado; and Mountaindale Orchards, a major apple grower in West Virginia.
Mr. Bernstein’s legal experience has not been confined to the United States. He has provided legal services for clients in Cuba, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela and Colombia.
Among the other highlights of Mr. Bernstein’s professional career was his real estate work supervising land titles for the United States Coast Guard in South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. He served as an Associated Supervising Editor of McKinney’s New York State Tax Forms and is the author of numerous articles on New York State Residency Cases.
